The fastest train in the US runs on Air Spring Systems designed and manufactured by ContiTech. The rail experts of ContiTech Railway Engineering (CRE) developed a new suspension concept especially for the Acela Express.
The Acela Express is based on the TGV high-speed train and is provided with the innovative tilting technology that enables the train to travel some 15-20% faster than conventional trains. Like motorcyclists do, the train tilts in curves without the passengers being aware of this.
The Air Spring Systems were developed with a lightweight design. They are in accordance with the AMTRAK integrated safety concept and they take into account the demands made regarding speed, safety, comfort and environmental compatibility.
The assembly of the Air Springs Systems, the testing and the inspection is located in the USA at an assembly shop, built especially for the railway market in the US.
Except for the Air Spring Bellow and the Emergency Spring, all parts needed for the assembly of Air Spring Systems for the American railway market and are purchased from manufacturers located in the US. Therefore, ContiTech Railway Engineering is capable to meet the US local content requirements.
